A powerpoint presentation about LGBT Pride Month to be used in assembly, tutor time or formtime, or a PSHE resource. The powerpoint covers why we have pride, why we don’t have straight pride, the origins of pride, the pride flag design, how to be a straight ally, examples of famous straight allies, LGBTQ community in modern culture, where to go for advise if you or someone you know is affected by the issues and some facts and statistics about equality.

KS1 KS2 Primary Assembly Pride Month This is an assembly with guidance notes for presenting. The first part of the assembly consists of an explanation of what Pride is and why it is important for us to celebrate it, and the second part has some examples of famous and notable LGBT + people from both modern times and history.

This is a resource designed for commemorating the AIDs crisis, as part of LGBTQ+ History Month during February. This resource could be used as an assembly, a tutor time presentation, or as a lesson. It should take between 20 and 25 minutes to deliver in full, so if used as a lesson you may wish to add some written tasks (some suggestions are given in the powerpoint itself). There are detailed notes in the notes section of each powerpoint slide, to aid delivery and help with background knowledge in case the students have questions. The final slide has space for you to include and signpost in-school support that is specific to your school, as well as some AIDS and LGBTQ+ youth charities you can also signpost students towards.

A whole staff CPD that can be either delivered in person, or sent out as a remote CPD if necessary due to Covid-19 or staff absence. This should only take about 20-30 minutes to deliver depending on the amount of detail you would like to go into. There are notes on most of the slides elaborating on the points made in the slides, as well as a copy of my Printable guide for supporting Trans and NB students. This is a PowerPoint which could be used either as an assembly or as a tutor time/registration time activity. It explains the meaning behind National Coming Out Day and why it is important, includes real life coming out stories from celebrities and other LGBTQ people, and has a slide which includes charities that young people can go to for support and advice. The slides finish with a copy of Dean Atta’s poem How To Come Out As Gay from the book The Black Flamingo.

A lesson to be used in conjunction with the new SRE curriculum informing students about trans and non-binary and what those things mean. Includes lots of information slides plus lesson activities and a writing task at the end of the lesson, plus plenaries in the lesson and at the end. A great lesson for use with all secondary year groups to help them to understand trans and non-binary terms and pronouns.

A resource to be used in conjunction with the book “Prince and Knight” by Daniel Haack. A great LGBTQ+ friendly story, beautifully illustrated and engaging, which has many different layers in which to discuss. This resource includes example activities for before, during, and after reading, questions to ask during the reading of the book, and suggested activities to consolidate learning once the book has been finished. Aimed at early years and KS1, but could easily be adapted to work for KS2 if necessary. There is also scaffolding within the resource and use of Makaton signs to discuss emotions. Teacher notes at each stage of the resource guide the teacher and make suggestions. A great resource for anyone looking to add more diverse books and characters into their classroom but unsure of where to start or how to begin discussing these topics with younger students.
